UKY-E Compact Hanging Scroll Los Angeles Lakers

A piece that superimposes a historic observatory and Mt. Fuji behind the dynamic great wave known as "The Great Wave." Based on the masterpiece "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," which profoundly impacted Western art, it harmonizes the bushido spirit of the Shonan region with modern Shonan beach culture, allowing the history and climate of Japan and the U.S. to perform together within a single wave.

A collection of works titled UKY-E (UNBOUND KNOTTING YORE - EDITORIAL) that embodies the geographical and historical connections between cities in Japan and the U.S. Just as ukiyo-e woodblock prints are composed of layers—sketches, carving, and coloring—this series overlays historical ukiyo-e from various regions of Japan with actual photographs of corresponding U.S. landmarks, expressing world lines that transcend time and place. The mounting of these hanging scrolls was produced in collaboration with Tokyo-based scroll maker Taishin Sagawa, incorporating fabrics and textures that symbolize the team's colors.
