UKY-E Hanging Scroll Compact Dallas Mavericks
TEAM|Dallas Mavericks
A piece featuring Mount Nakanotake, considered a sacred site for seekers of the truth, with the vast cityscape of Dallas spread out beneath it. Gunma, a region that has produced fine horses, and Dallas, where cowboy culture thrives. This work expresses the indomitable and unyielding vitality of both regions—linked by their equestrian culture and an unconventional, rebellious spirit—through a composition that fuses the majestic mountain landscape with the urban cityscape.
▼UKY-E KAKEJIKU
A collection titled UKY-E (UNBOUND KNOTTING YORE - EDITORIAL) that embodies the geographical and historical connections between cities in Japan and the United States. Much like how ukiyo-e woodblock prints are composed of layers—sketches, carving, and coloring—this series overlays historical ukiyo-e from various parts of Japan with live-action photography of corresponding landmarks in the U.S., expressing world lines that transcend time and place. The hanging scrolls (kakejiku) were produced in collaboration with Tokyo-based mounting specialist Taishin Sagawa, with the mounting incorporating fabrics and textures that symbolize team colors.
