UKIYO-E HANGING SCROLL

UKY-E (UNBOUND KNOTTING YORE - EDITORIAL) is a collection of artworks embodying the geographical and historical ties between cities in Japan and the United States. Just as ukiyo-e woodblock prints are composed of layered elements—from line drawings and block carving to color application—these works overlay historical, real-world ukiyo-e from across Japan with photographies of corresponding U.S. landmarks, expressing a timeline and world that transcend both time and space. Created in collaboration with Taishin Sagawa, a Tokyo-based hanging scroll master (kakejiku-shi), the scroll mountings incorporate fabrics and textures that symbolize the team's colors.
