UKY-E Hanging Scroll Dallas Mavericks

A work that juxtaposes Mount Nakanotake, considered a sacred site for seekers of the Way, with the vast cityscape of Dallas sprawling below. From Gunma, known for producing fine horses, to Dallas, where cowboy culture thrives—both regions are connected by equine traditions and an extraordinary rebellious spirit. This piece captures their indomitable, untamable vitality through a composition that fuses the majestic mountain form with the urban landscape.

▼UKY-E KAKEJIKU
A collection of works titled UKY-E (UNBOUND KNOTTING YORE - EDITORIAL) that embodies the geographical and historical ties between Japanese and American cities. Much like the traditional ukiyo-e process, which is structured through distinct layers of sketching, block-carving, and coloring, these works superimpose historical ukiyo-e from various regions in Japan with real-life photographs of corresponding landmarks in the United States, expressing a timeline that transcends space and time. The hanging scrolls are crafted in collaboration with Tokyo-based scroll maker Taishin Sagawa, utilizing fabrics and textures in the mounting that symbolize the team's colors.
