UKY-E Compact Hanging Scroll: Houston Rockets

A piece that superimposes the cityscape of Houston over Kagoshima Bay, looking out toward Sakurajima. Both Kagoshima and Houston serve as major hubs for space exploration, sharing a fervent frontier spirit that pioneers the unknown. By fusing the powerful breath of Sakurajima with the pioneering spirit that challenges the cosmos, this work launches the indomitable passion and transformative energy hidden within both cities toward the sky.

▼UKY-E KAKEJIKU
Named UKY-E (UNBOUND KNOTTING YORE - EDITORIAL), this collection embodies the geographical and historical ties between cities in Japan and the U.S. Just as Ukiyo-e woodblock prints are composed of separate layers—initial sketches, block carving, and color application—this series overlays historical Ukiyo-e prints from various parts of Japan with photographs of corresponding U.S. landmarks, expressing world lines that transcend time and space. The Kakejiku (hanging scrolls) are crafted with the cooperation of Tokyo-based mounting artisan Taishin Sagawa, incorporating fabrics and textures that symbolize the team colors into the mounting.
