UKY-E Compact Hanging Scroll Detroit Pistons
TEAM|Detroit Pistons
A work that layers the cityscape of the Detroit riverside over the scenery of "Tokaido Kawasaki." Both are representative "industrial hubs" of Japan and the U.S. that have fostered unique cultures such as hip-hop. The scenery of the Tama River and the Detroit River are superimposed, with iconic high-rise buildings standing along the banks. It is a performance where the powerful culture and history of development of each city come together.
▼UKY-E KAKEJIKU
A collection named UKY-E (UNBOUND KNOTTING YORE - EDITORIAL) that embodies the geographical and historical ties between cities in Japan and the U.S. Just as ukiyo-e woodblock prints are composed of layers—the sketch, the carving, and the coloring—this work superimposes historically authentic ukiyo-e from various parts of Japan with photographic images of corresponding U.S. landmarks, expressing a timeline that transcends time and space. The production of the hanging scrolls is supported by Tokyo-based kakejiku artisan Taishin Sagawa, with the mounting incorporating fabrics and textures that symbolize team colors.
